The Best WordPress Theme EVER: Why We Use Headway For WordPress

best WordPress Theme EverThere is a lot of talk of themes for wordpress and a lot of debate which is the BEST.  Now with anything, there is certainly a lot of opinions flying around out there, and a lot of those opinions are based on individual experiences with different themes.  The truth is the best WordPress theme out there right now is HeadWay.  I've tried Genesis and Thesis, both good themes, but I've seen the best results with Headway.  Here is why I use it, and why I think you should too!

SEO Value of Headway Theme

If you are still using a free theme for your WordPress blog then you are missing out. I always reccomend to blogging newbies that they start with a free theme and learn the ropes of blogging and audience building slowly.  If you've ever built a blog you know that it is a slow process.  It takes patience, consistency, great content, and authenticity.   When searching for the best wordpress theme for your blog, SEO should be at the top of your list of criteria.  There are many themes that look good and are easy to use, but are they adding SEO value to your blog?  This is the number one reason why we use Headway for WordPress.  Using Headway has helped us effectively rank in Google search for several keywords… and on the first page! That is value!  Here are just a few example of keyword phrases that have landed us in the top of Google search:

Keywords:

Networking Using Facebook Why You Should Be On LinkedIn How Do I Find My Blogs Keywords (This one has been as high as #1 on Google and is currently #2 )

Good Practices To Use Facebook To Grow Your Business Definition

Of Inbound Marketing How To Engage Your Facebook Fans   A lot of people ask us how we do this… as showing up in Google search first page is not always easy.  Our answer: keyword research and placement, social media, and our WordPress Blog, more specifically the Headway Theme.

Another little nugget of proof that Headway works for us is our Alexa score. We are ranked #115,000 in the world and 18,000 in the US.  I've been blogging long enough and have never had these kinds of results until I started using Headway.  Take it from me it works.

Drag And Drop

The drag and drop theme was scary to me at first, but once I started working with it i began to LOVE it! As far as designing your web page there is no other theme that makes it easier.  You can easily make templates for different pages on your site, adjust the size of your columns easily, and sidebars where you want.  I love that  I simply added a "featured post slider" to the home page without a plugin or extra coding.  I simply dragged the leaf where I wanted and it was there!  Without slowing down the site!  The drag and drop feature of Headway is another reason why we love it and think it is the best wordpress theme on the market right now.  It is also great for those of us who are not php, css, and html savvy.

Support

Having a great support system is so important.  It makes life easier to have products that are not only easy to use, but have behind them great customer service and lots of training to teach you how to best use them.. This is also why we like GoDaddy and Aweber.  Headway has a great blog that I refer to often for tips and tricks on using Headway better.

We think Headway is the best WordPress theme on the market right now but we always think we could learn from others!  What do you think is the best wordpress theme?  What are you using for your blog?  Are any of you using Headway and love it too?  Sound off in the comments below!

Thanks for recommending this, great to see all the comments too.  I'm using a free theme on WordPress and have recently been thinking of upgrading – looks like the choice is an easy one!

I'm glad that you love headway, it's definitely my favorite framework ever. I started using it in 2009 and never looked back! It's funny because I've been using WordPress for a while now, and I just can't get the hang of Genesis or Thesis. Maybe some people are just born as Headway users? Haha.
Also if you ever need any tutorials, be sure to check out headway101.com or shoot me an email and I'll see what I can do! :)

I have recently started to use twenty eleven for a blog http://roomofkarma.se and catch box for 4 other companies http://bflytt.se. They are so easy to adjust and add plugins too. I Love standard themes which works in mobiles. I believe many blogs as my own have to change very soon… I am using blogolife pro on my own but don't like it's not mobile so I will change…

I use Headway and have been very happy with it. I used to have Thesis, but have heard a lot about how difficult it is to work with. I don't do any of my own website work, but it is nice to have a theme that is easy so I can make a small tweak if I need to.  I'm not sure about the difference in SEO value. I know my Alexa rank continues to drop. Whether Headway has helped that, I would guess yes. Certainly it hasn't hurt!

When I was about to build my blog 3 years ago, I went through the whole Thesis vs Headway debate.  My coach at the time was pushing Thesis.  And Headway was brand, spanking new.  When I saw the page-to-page flexibility and the drag-and-drop features, I knew it was the right one.  And I haven't looked back since … Glad to see you concur, Elizabeth!  ;-)

I'm currently using Thesis and doing well with it — I suppose. I've really only been blogging weekly for a month or so, but in 28 days my Alexa has gone from 956K down to 495K so I'm not complaining. If I'm reading it right, it's $87 for the first year, then $22 every year after? I may get it and learn it on my testing site at some point in the near future because I've been hearing a lot about it.

      July 14, 2012 | 2:05 pm

That’s great Becky.. and I have to say that we blog no less than twice a week and it helps. I’m just excited about the value we have gotten out of this theme though and I wanted to share that with anyone that was interested in why we have done so well so quickly.. the theme alone is not the answer but it plays a big role.

This is pretty interesting. I am using Thesis still, just because I'm sort of used to it, and it seems like every page and post would need tweaking if I switched themes  now – especially on two blogs that are designed to resemble eachother.  I'm confused about Alex ranking though. I have friends who make 7 figures from sites with Alexa rankings in the millions (literally – I know they're not lying to me as we are good friends) and I have friends whose low ranking sites make almost nothing. I'm not sure the power of Alexa except to other web developers.

  30. Mary Sloane
    July 11, 2012 | 9:03 am

I have been trying to figure out one theme that I could really use for everything and I think I will try this one.  My designer loves the Theme Forest themes but they are always different and so I end up leaving too much of the set up to them and I don't ever get quite what I want.
Has anyone tried Headway for ecommerce?

Great article, Angela. I've been with Thesis and it took me long enough to learn how to use it, I'm not ready to change. I have heard a lot of positive comments about Headway. Perhaps, if I ever want to change, I will try this. Thanks so much for sharing.

I have heard so much about Headway; I am on genesis at the moment and really do like it; my alexaranking is also very good. I wouldn't know the diference though until I would have evidence….I have to check Headway!

    • Elizabeth

My wordpress is under an umbrella…I pay monthly and they do all the fixing and adding of things. This however only allows for plug ins and such that they decide. One day I will venture on my own, but when I am more stable. How can I tell what WP theme I am using under these circumstances?
    Oh, GREAT information!!

  41. Jeff Belonger
    July 9, 2012 | 3:56 pm

Good post with some good information. But does this change from time to time… because I know that Headway was not as good like 10 months ago. i hang with many different developers and several seem to have their own opinions. Just sayin… My main site, I use Genisis. Once you have an idea how it works, it's not that hard. And maybe SEO has changed over time..  just a few points on why you didn't rank as well back then. Hey, not knocking Headway, because I will try it on my next site. But I do know things change a lot.. I guess I say this because you talk about opinions and that the turht is, Headway is the best. But isn't this an opinion? Hey, just trying to play devils advocate. :)   You do make some compelling points. But I am not a design expert, just a user. :)

    • Angela Jordan
      July 9, 2012 | 5:01 pm

Yes, That is in our opinion Jeff! I know that everyone uses different themes and some work better for others. I am not knocking it. I do think that Genesis is pretty dang good. In fact, it is my second love. And yes, I agree things do change and a year from now, I may have a brand new love. But for now we are married to Headway, and it is really what is working wonders for us. And I couldn’t help but to write about it. :-) Btw, glad to have you over on our blog! Your input is appreciated!

So what is involved in moving a free wordpress theme to Headway?  And what about all of the great plugins and widgets?  Will they work with Headway?

  43. Jonathan Payne
    July 9, 2012 | 2:10 pm

I've been hearing more and more about Headway lately.  I really do need to invest in a premium theme…now to make a choice between Genesis, Thesis, and Headway =/

    • Angela Jordan
      July 9, 2012 | 5:04 pm

Jonathan I went with a free theme for a LONG time, and rightly so. But I can tell you that once you get a premium theme, the SEO value is like non other. I think those are the top 3 themes. The thing that sets Headway apart for me is the ease of use, I have come to LOVE that drag and drop tool! I am not very coding savvy at all! I also love their blog. It’s full of great tips on using the theme, all in one place. But whatever you choose, I am sure you will begin to see the value almost immediately!
