How To Get More Followers on Twitter

how to get more twitter followersDo you look at your list of Twitter followers and wonder how on earth you’ll ever grow your list to be more influential?

You’re probably thinking you have enough things to do running your business day to day, let alone keeping up with your blog and your other social media.  Now you’re trying to figure out why your list of Twitter followers seems to have hit a plateau.

And then you see other people with tens of thousands of Twitter followers on their list and it’s growing every day.  You might wonder how they get more Twitter followers even in their sleep?

In a way that’s exactly what’s happening.  With a few easy tips, you can learn how to do the same and enjoy the benefits of a growing Twitter list – without having to be glued to your computer all through the night.

How To Get More Followers on Twitter

       Add yourself to Twitter directories

This is one of the keys to getting more followers – make yourself able to be found!  Sounds simple enough, and really it is.  The two most popular and reliable Twitter directories are Twellow and WeFollow.  By adding yourself to Twitter directories in the appropriate niche that applies to your business, you make it possible for people wanting to follow someone in your niche to find you!  Make sure to choose the right niche, as well as including appropriate keywords in your description so that people searching find you, not your competition, and can then follow you.

     Promote yourself

It’s time to get comfortable with promoting yourself and your brand.  Not in an obnoxious way, but in a way that shows your audience how you can benefit them, solve a problem for them or answer a question they need to have answered.

To use this to grow your Twitter list, include a link to your Twitter profile in your communication, whether online or offline.  Add it to your e-mail signature, on your website, on your business cards, etc.  Give people the information to make it easy to  follow you and chances are they will.

     Follow quality people

Finding and following people who are interested in your niche is one of the best ways to grow your list of followers quickly.  Follow people in your niche.  Follow people who follow your influencers.  Follow people based on use of particular hashtags or keywords.  Follow friends of friends.

In all of these examples, you are following people who are in some way related to what your area of expertise is.  Many of them will follow you back, increasing your list of targeted followers.

Getting more Twitter followers isn’t rocket science, and it doesn’t have to take tons of your time on a daily basis.  Taking a few minutes a day to implement the suggestions above will yield consistent growth of followers who are interested in what you have to offer.  Keep it up, and you’re likely to wake up each morning to find you have new followers waiting for you to engage with them.

Which suggestion will you implement this week to grow your list of followers?

One good thing that I have found is to just ask people to follow you!  Believe it or not it works pretty well.  After you get a bunch of followers, you can check out "Tweet When" and it will tell you the best times to tweet too!

Great reminder to go back and review the keywords used when Twellow was set up.  And add WeFollow.  I also know I'm not maximizing the use of #hashtags.  Thanks, Edmund and Elizabeth, for bumping these things back up on my "to do" list!

  3. Great post-thanks for sharing your tips with us Edmund. I must admit that not too long ago I really disliked Twitter. However, today it is one of my favorite social medial platforms.

It is amazing how simple and straightforward it is to be successful on social media, but how many people don't get it.

I get this question a lot by fellow bloggers who don't have as big of a following.  I look back at my growing, and I guess I just talked about my interests, and truly the people found me.

It really comes down to promoting yourself, and following the things you're true about.  =) And the people do come.

  9. My goodness – I'd never heard of Twellow or WeFollow nor thought of including my twitter link in my communications. I have been doing your third suggestion, however. Wonderful post – thanks!
