How to use Twitter to Boost Your Google Rank

How To Use Twitter For a Business

What's a Twitter List?

I'm guessing if you've used Twitter lists, you think of them as a great tool for getting organized on social media. And you'd be correct.use twitter for businessOr maybe you also think of them as one of the best ways you can use the power of Twitter for a business, helping you network, getting you connected with the most influential people in your niche.  You'd be right there, too. But did you know that lists are also great tools to use Twitter for a business, especially when it comes to search engine optimization (aka SEO)?  Did You realize Twitter lists let you harness the power of Google search to help people find you when they're searching in your niche?

You didn't know that?  Let's talk more!

Here's the thing.  Search engines, especially Google, love Twitter lists.  Within the HTML code for Twitter lists, there are tags and links.  And if you've checked out my articles that spell out how I climbed to the top of Alexa rankings in 90 days, getting my articles on to page 1 of Google, you'll know that the process of optimizing pages for SEO is all about tags and links.

Okay Here you go, the tips to creating a lead generating magnet that draws search engine attention to your Twitter profile  :

Choose Your Username:  Your username is the first step toward optimizing your Twitter profile for search engine magnetism.  One of the best ways to choose your name on Twitter is to use your first and last names.  However, you might have a name twin who has already gotten that username. In that case, use other keywords from your niche as part of your username – such as RealEstateJane, SocialMediaRob and the like. My company name wouldn't fit so I have to put on my thinking cap. Humm How am I known and what am I marketing? Ask yourself these questions. Then tie it together in a pretty bow that has SEO value for your business. I hear your wheels turning from here !

Choose Your List Names:  Your list names are the second important piece of Twitter profile real estate for maximizing the SEO power of your Twitter profile.  So think wisely about keywords in your niche, related to your location, or sub sections of the services you offer.

List Key People:  Go find the social Media Stars in your industry make a list and put them on it! Bingo! You have created value for your twitter name and you can engage with these super stars in a tidy little list. Now How Cool is that?

How to optimize your Twitter lists for SEO might not be obvious for every business and niche.  But if you to think about your product or services, your location, your partner industries, etc., you can likely come up with many (up to 20) different lists that you can strategically name to take advantage of the SEO benefits that come from carefully named Twitter lists. Come on you can do this !

And here's how all of this matters to you.  Once you build your Twitter lists, naming each one in a way that includes a strategic keyword, Google indexes Twitter lists, just like other content online.  And Google likes it when information is confirmed across multiple sites online, in terms of building your credibility. So when your business name, keywords about your business and your business name show up in places like your Twitter lists, Google remembers this information, increasing its perception of your credibility because of it. Make Sense ? Get To It!

  1. Thanks for a wonderful advice. Didn't know Twitter lists carried that much importance. Well, its not surprising. Google loves anything with a nice structure, and tags/keywords attached to it. Twitter lists are exactly like that. A bunch of brands/people associated with a keyword or phrase. It makes Google's ranking and keyword association easier.
I will certainly become good at lists. Thank you!

  2. Wonder if you have any good tips for tools to make the creation of Twitter Lists easier?  I thought I'd found a good tool http://twitlistmanager.com but I'm still experimenting with whether it works well or not.  I've also tried creating List Names via desktop Twitter, then going to Hootsuite to manage list members.
Will keep working with these two tools, but am currently trying to edit lists for our Twitter account where I'm following 1,900 plus people, and it's a bit of a chore to be honest! So any feedback would be fab.
Thanks for emphasising the SEO aspect of Twitter lists, a most useful article.
